Saddleworth Rangers 14 - 10 Woolston Rovers
At he North West Counties Juniors Under 12 finals day at Blackpool Saddleworth Rangers won the development plate event at this tremendous facility in Fylde.
Harry Aaronson scored first with a superb run on the 5th following an excellent kick upfield by Tom Jowle.
Aaronson scored again after a series of strong attacks by Rangers carving through the Woolston defence to put down decisively.
Rangers forged ahead and were confident and improving as the half continued.
The third Rangers try came from a superb pass from Jacob Ford to Tom Brisk who ran 40yds to put the ball down under the posts.
So at half time Rangers were in control 14-0 in front and exuding confidence.
The second half was a different story and Woolston opened the scoring after putting Saddleworth under relentless pressure.
The opposition then contrived a second try which was converted and which put Rangers on the back foot.
Woolston were closing in with ten minutes to go.
In similar situations previously this season, heads have dropped and occasionally surrender would follow, but true to their spirit on this special occasion they held on magnificently until the final whistle. In particular awesome defending by Jacob Ford and the Adams twins kept them at bay and excellent performances by Sam Ireland, Fin Wall and Archie Taylor made the victory count.
Newcomers this year Reece Travis, Harry Smith and Ali Hassan and stalwarts Nathan Knowles and Dan Holmes all made purposeful and powerful runs deep into the oppositions half throughout the match and all tackled to good effect.
This was a fitting end to a successful season where the individual talents have far exceeded expectation and the new players have been integrated into a well motivated team who will go from strength to strength.
