Under 10's
Saddleworth Rangers v Leigh Miners 18/04/2010 PDF Print E-mail
 36-26

This was truly a game of two halfs. In the first Rangers looked as though they were continuing in the same vein as last weeks decidedly lethargic performance when poor defending saw them 14 nil down within 15 minutes. Rangers then had a glimmer of hope after Nathan Roebuck received the ball out wide and with a strong run scored the try and kick. Leigh though responded quickly with another try and kick to end the half in the driving seat 6-20.
The encouraging half time team talk though seemed to do the trick this week and Rangers emerged a rejuvenated side. Keeping in position well and playing the ball out wide Rangers secured another try through Nathan Roebuck which Matt Fletcher kicked. Kristian Hilton was fired up and his strong yet well disciplined play galvanising the rest of the team. James Rice and Matt Fletcher each took the ball over twice with some great kicking by Finn Gallagher, Guy Edwards, Matt Tetlow and Kristian Hilton. Rangers only allowed Leigh in once in the second half which was a clear indication of how well the defensive line had tightened up. Josh Molloy was outstanding in attack and defence, Kieran Elkin off loaded noteably well today and there was a great second half defensive performance by Kai Armstrong.

Many thanks again to the Rangers players who gave great performances for the opposition, Guy Edwards, Elliott Fish, Nathan Roebuck and Nathan Burgess.

Ince Rose Bridge v Saddleworth Rangers 11/04/2010 PDF Print E-mail
24-12
Poor Rangers defending today ensured Ince won the game. After a run of games that had seen Rangers playing some great rugby today was hopefully a blip. Rangers initially had to defend two sets of six deep in their own half which they did successfully only to let Ince in soon after, when the Ince player skipped through Rangers defensive line. Rangers late in the first half equalised after the ball was played along the line for Nathan Roebuck to make a strong run to score with Matt Fletcher successfully kicking the goal. Right on half time Ince scored too easily again.
After half time Rangers looked brighter passing the ball around more freely and they thought they had equalised only for Finn Gallagher's try to be disallowed. Ince added another two trys exploiting again the Rangers poor defensive line. Late in the half Matt Fletcher scored a try with Finn Gallagher scoring the kick. Matt Tetlow worked hard at scrum half, but a low tackle count for everyone today summed the game up. Next week hopefully we will be back on track after working off all the easter eggs!

Wigan St Judes v Saddleworth Rangers 21/03/2010 PDF Print E-mail

14-10

Today was a big test for Rangers who were up against one of the best teams in our age group.

They travelled to Wigan with a number of players missing but full of confidence off the back of some strong performances so far this year.

Impressive defensive play from both teams right from the off meant this was not going to be a high scoring game. Rangers got the 1st break, with a great individual try from Will Wright who took the ball wide deep in his own half to skip past the Wigan defence and score at the other end, he then converted the kick. Both teams continued to play great rugby, Josh Molloy, Matt Fletcher and Nathan Roebuck in particular testing the Jude’s defence with strong drives, and a resolute Rangers defence holding strong. With half time looming St Jude’s kicked on the last tackle the ball bounced away from the Rangers players to land nicely for the St Jude’s winger to collect the ball then score between the defenders, at half time the score 4-6.

The 2nd half continued in the same vein, again Rangers were the 1st on the score sheet, taking St Jude’s back to there own 10m line, Will Wright received the ball wide and fended off two challenges to score again.

With time running out St Jude’s continued to pressure with it finally paying off and the scores were equal, and this would have been the fairest result. Unfortunately in the dyeing seconds St Jude’s scored a fortuitous try after 3 alleged knock ons by Rangers to finish the game 14-10 winners.

Both teams played a great game and Rangers coaches and parents were extremely proud of the whole team’s performance

Coaches Award- Will Rice playing at acting half back, rotated the forwards well and moved the ball quickly for the backs

Top Tackler- Will Wright not only scoring all the points but putting in some big hits and wrapping the ball up really well.

Man of the match- Josh Molloy, great defence coupled with great forward play continually made inroads into the St Jude’s defence

West Bank Bears v Saddleworth Rangers 14/03/2010 PDF Print E-mail
24-32 points
After a slow start Rangers raised their game today to ensure victory. The first half ended all square at 16 points each which was mainly due to Rangers sloppy defending. An encouraging half time talk though saw Rangers far more disciplined defensively yet maintaining their attacking game resulting in a deserved victory.
Try- Matt Fletcher 2, Elliott Fish, Nathan Roebuck, Josh Molloy, James Rice and Adam Dransfield.
Conversions- Kieran Elkin, Matt Fletcher, Finn Gallagher and Nathan Roebuck.

Coaches award- Elliott Fish
Top Tackler- Finn Gallagher
Man of the Match- Adam Dransfield
